Priscilla Queen of the Desert will celebrate its L.A. premiere at Hollywood’s Pantages Theatre for a limited three-week engagement, May 28 – June 16. Priscilla tells the uplifting story of a trio of friends on a road trip of a lifetime, who hop aboard a battered old bus searching for love and friendship in the middle of the Australian outback and end up finding more than they could ever have dreamed. An international hit with over 500 dazzling, 2011 Tony Award-winning costumes, the show features a hit parade of dance-floor favorites including “It’s Raining Men,” “Finally” and “I Will Survive.” The musical is written by Stephan Elliott and Allan Scott. Direction is by Simon Phillips, choreography by Ross Coleman, with musical supervision & arrangements by Stephen ‘Spud’ Murphy. Theatre Palisades will open The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, directed by Lewis Hauser, on April 12 and continue performances through May 12. Musical director is Brian Murphy and choreography is by Vicki Miller. The cast includes Brad Akerman, Dorothy Blue, Candice Courtney, Ariella Fiore, David Holguin, Kana Koinuma, Peter Miller, Cynthia Rothschild and Darcy Silveira. The March Family is coming to Laguna this April in the beloved classic, Little Women: Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy, presented live on-stage as part of the Laguna Playhouse Youth Theatre, April 5 - 14 at the Laguna Playhouse Moulton Theatre, 606 Laguna Canyon Drive in Laguna Beach. Little Women: Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy will be directed by Kelly Herman. This is the classic story of the March women waiting for their father to return home from the Civil War. It shares their quest to find their place in the world as kind, generous and productive women in a rapidly changing America. The cast will feature young actors from Laguna Beach and Orange County, including Grace McCarney as Jo, Michael Stancliff as Laurie, Kayla Oldfield as Meg, Luis Castilleja as Mr. Brooke, Syd Ames as Beth, and Hannah Smith as Amy, Jennifer Pearce as Marmee, Charlie McClung as Mr. Laurence, Topher Mauerhan as Mr. March, Margaret VandenBerghe as Aunt March and Naomi Marden as Hannah Mullet. Laguna Playhouse also presents Hershey Felder’s newest production, starring award-winning concert pianist Mona Golabek in the one-woman show, based on a true story, The Pianist of Willesden Lane. Adapted and directed by audience favorite Hershey Felder and based on the book “The Children of Willesden Lane” by Golabek and Lee Cohen, this music-filled evening recounts the personal story of Ms. Golabek’s mother in Nazi-occupied Europe. The Pianist of Willesden Lane will perform for two weeks only beginning Wednesday, May 29 through Sunday, June 9 at the Laguna Playhouse, Moulton Theatre, 606 Laguna Canyon Rd. in Laguna Beach. PLAYdate is excited to present a staged reading of the musical Inside Out Sunday April 21 at the Ebell of Los Angeles by Doug Haverty (book & lyrics) and Adryan Russ (music & lyrics). Desperate, smart, sassy, affectionate, aware and determined women give and get support in spirited weekly meetings guided by Grace, a savvy therapist. A hesitant new member alters the chemistry of the group and stimulates a round of evocative and uplifting breakthroughs in this sensitive, witty musical. The vibrant score ranges from hysterical Broadway patter to no holds barred gospel and good time doo wop.
